Laboratory for Human Brain Dynamics – Cyprus (LHBD-C)

General Information :

  • Location: Nicosia, Cyprus
  • Personnel:
          - 4 senior researchers
          - 5 visiting staff
          - 5 master thesis and PhD (distant) students
  • Equipment: MEG analysis software and hardware
  • Contact: Prof. Andreas A. Ioannides
  • Email: ioannides@postman.riken.jp

 The main research lines :

  • Study of human brain activity using primarily MEG, but also EEG, MRI, fMRI and DTI
  • Special interest in higher cognitive function, attention, sleep, emotions and artistic appreciation and expression
  • Special emphasis on:
          - Single trial analysis
          - Tomographic reconstructions of activity
          - Connectivity at different timescales (ms to minutes)
          - Design of MEG and EEG experiments to fully exploit the spatiotemporal information available in the signal
  • Behavioral experiments

What it is offered to the other NEUROMATH partners :

  • Hosting PhD students and researchers from other laboratories of Neuromath, supported by the STSM
          - To analyze MEG data already available at LHBD-C
          - To perform behavioral studies (and EEG in the future)
          - To plan joint studies
  • Processing of single trial MEG data, especially from clinical cases where real-time imaging is essential
  • Derivation of local & global brain networks related to specific tasks or states (e.g. sleep)

What we are looking for in the other NEUROMATH partners :

  • Partners to develop next generation of MEG and EEG hardware and software
  • Partners for in depth studies with MEG and other neuroimaging hardware wishing to explore in real-time:
          - Specific cognitive functions and states of the normal brain
          - Specific clinical conditions (e.g. schizophrenia, epilepsy)
