Wlodzimierz KLONOWSKI
Wlodzimierz (Wlodek) Klonowski got his MS in Physics
with specialization in Biophysics from the Univesrsity of Warsaw with
famous ‘Class’68’. In the beginning his works concerned mainly theory
of networks and structure-property relationships. He spent 14 years
outside Poland, as a professor at the Univesity of Kinszhasa (Kongo,
then Zaïre, French speaking), Max Planck Fellow in MPI Biophysikalische
Chemie in Gõttingen, visiting professor at Brandeis University
(Waltham, MA, USA). His research interests were changing towards
theory of nonlinear systems and of systems far from thermodynamic
equilibrium. He had predicted a new type of dissipative structures –
the sol-gel structures – that later have been found experimentally. He
had postulated a new type of non-equilibrium molecular structure that
later was named in scientific literature Klonowski-Klonowska conformon (term proposed by in the book Molecular Theories of Cell Life and Death,
Rutgers Univ. Press, 1991). He got his DSc (habilitation) in
Theoretical Biophysics from Humboldt University, Berlin, in 1990. Most
of his more recent works has concerned application of nonlinear
dynamics and of chaos theory in biomedicine, e.g. fractal analysis of
EEG and HRV, symbolic analysis of biosignals. Founder and the
Coordinator of the series of European Interdisciplinary Schools on
Nonlinear Dynamics for System and Signal Analysis EUROATTRACTOR in FP5. and the editor of series Frontiers of Nonlinear Dynamics (Pabst Science Publisher, Lengerich, Berlin). In FP 6. the leader of GBAF, the Polish group in the IP SENSATION. He is a representative for Poland to MC of NEUROMATH
and also to MCs of the COST Actions B27 ENOC (where he also serves as
the Chair of the Theoretical Working Group WG1), and of BM0605. Grant
reviewer for NSF (USA), European Commission (Individual Expert on
panels for Marie Curie and NEST Actions), Estonian Academy of Sciences.
He has actively disseminated scientific knowledge to general public and
has been active in scientific societies; he was the president of the
Polish Biophysical Society Warsaw Section, he is a member of the
International Society of Bioelectromagnetism and of several others.
Founding Editor and an Editor-in-Chief of a new open access journal “Nonlinear Biomedical Physics” (http://www.nonlinearbiomedphys.com/edboard , BioMed Central, London). His biographical entries are in several international Who’sWhos like Leading Scientists of the World 2008
to which he was nominated for the 'efforts made in the arena of Scientific Research in Biomedical Physics' (International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, UK).
