Rolando Grave de Peralta Menendez

(M. Sc. Mechanical Engineering 1987, M. Sc. Mathematics 1992 and the PhDGenevaUniversity in 1998) is the Swiss Contact for Cost Action BM0601 Neuromath. He worked at the CubanNationalCenter for Scientific Research from 1987 to 1995, when moved to the University of Muenster, Germany.

Since 1996 he is in Switzerland leading the research on bioelectromagnetic inverse problem and its applications. His research interest center on Applied Mathematics namely: Bayesian models, Global Optimization, Pattern Recognition Techniques and Inverse Problems with discrete data and its applications in biomedicine. These applications include the development of a biophysically constrained brain electromagnetic tomography for source localization, off-line and real time analysis of electrophysiological signals (e.g. EEG, EMG, EKG, GSR) as used for direct non invasive brain computer interfaces (BCI), neuro-rehabilitation and sleep, stroke and epilepsy monitoring systems and noninvasive stimulation. Pioneer of BCI in Switzerland, he proposed for the first time the use of inverse solutions for noninvasive BCI (IM2-BMI-white paper) and presented on the framework of European MAIA project the Geneva-BCI outperforming most of the motor imagery systems proposed so far. He has published more than 40 papers in peer reviewed and neuroimaging leading journals, several book chapters and proceeding papers and review materials for several scientific journals.
