Mihail Lucian Pascu

Mihail Lucian Pascu was born in Bucharest in 1946. He obtained the master degree in Optics and Spectroscopy at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Physics in 1968 and the PhD in Plasma Physics in 1975 from University of Bucharest, Faculty of Physics. The PhD was made within a  doctoral stage at the University of Texas at Dallas, had the title “ The study of the molecular ions in plasma” and contributed to the emerging field of optogalvanic spectroscopy. He is currently senior research scientist at the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Physics, University of Bucharest where he heads PhD in the field “Optics, Laser, Spectroscopy”. He is author of more than 200 papers, 10 patents  and 250 invited papers/communications at international conferences. He is author of one book chapter (Lasers in Medicine and dentistry, Chapter "Laser Physics", Editor Z. Simunovic, Vitagraf d.o.o., Rijeka, Croatia, ISBN 953-6059-30-4, 2000) and co-author of the book  “Lasers in  Neurosurgery”(L.Danaila, M.L.Pascu, Ed. Academiei, Bucharest, ISBN 973-27-0802-6, 2001). Current interests are in laser physics, chaotic phenomena in lasers, economy and biology, laser applications in medicine, biology and environment protection, nanomedicine. Prof. Pascu is currently grant reviewer of the Romanian  National Agency for Scientific Research, EC FP6 and FP7, COST networks. He is member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, founding member of the International Academy for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, Florence, founding member and first chairman of the Romanian Society for Lasers in Medicine and Biology,  member of: Centro Superiore di Logica e Scienze Comparate, Bologna, Romanian Society for Physics, Romanian Society for Optoelectronics, European Physical Society, SPIE, European Optical Society, World Association for Laser Therapy,  Executive Board of the International Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, München. He was Director of the Institute for Physics and Technology of Radiation devices (1983–1990)  and  Science Officer at EC DG Research  and European Science Foundation  serving for the COST  fields: Medicine  and Health, Biomaterials, Biomedicine and Molecular Biosciences. He is currently member of international reviews boards: Laser Therapy (USA), Romanian Journal of Optoelectronics, Photomedicine and Laser Surgery (USA), Lasers in Medicine and Surgery ( UK), Letters in Drug Design & Discovery - LDDD (US).
