Kim Dremstrup Nielsen, PhD, is Head of Department of Health Science and Technology and associate professor within the Faculty of Technical, Natural and Medical Sciences at Aalborg University. The department has the mission to establish competencies at the highest scientific level within technological and medical aspects of the health scene - spanning from cell to system. The department has app. 120 scientific and 30 technical/administrative employees. The department is responsible for, 600+ MsSc., medical and master students and app. 70 phd students. Education and research

Kim Dremstrup Nielsen is born in Aalborg, Denmark in 1958. He achieved his M.Sc.EE in biomedical engineering at AAU in 1984 and his Ph.D in 1993on automated methods of sleep analysis. His research is concentrated on methods for analysis of information from the brain. Especially eeg analysis, rehabilitation technology, sleep research and brain computer interfaces has been points of foci. He was the inventor of the Nightingale Sleep Analyzer System. International collaboration

Kim Dremstrup Nielsen has participated in following international research programs:

Comac-BME where he was coauthor of a biosignal storage format EDF (European Data Format) which now is used worldwide.
SIESTA - an "acronym" for: A New Standard for Integrating Polygraphic Sleep Recordings into a Comprehensive Model of Human Sleep and its Validation in Sleep Disorders.
