Hans LILJENSTRÖM
Hans Liljenström was born in
Eskilstuna, Sweden in 1956. In 1982, he got his MSc in Engineering
Physics at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, and in
1987 his PhD in Theoretical Biophysics, also at KTH, with a thesis On the Efficiency of a Biological System – Theoretical Modelling of Protein Synthesis.
In 1989-90, he did his postdoc with John Hopfield at Caltech, where he
started his research on computational neurobiology. He is currently a
Professor of Biometry at the Dept of Energy and Engineering, SLU,
Uppsala, Sweden. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed papers and
book chapters on mathematical and computational biology in the fields
of molecular biology, neurobiology and ecology. He has also co-edited
several books and special issues of journal, such as J. theor Biology, BioSystems, and Int. J. Neural Systems,
on topics ranging from the origin and evolution of life to the
mind-brain relation and to structure and dynamics of complex systems
and chaos. Currents interests include biological network modeling,
relating structure, dynamics and function. In particular, this involves
(cognitive) neurodynamics, inter-scale relations and state transitions
in neural, multi-agent, and ecological systems.
Prof. Liljenström is the founding director of Agora for Biosystems, an inter-disciplinary research centre under the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He is also a member of the Swedish committee for IIASA (the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis). Prof. Liljenström is a president of the Centre for Environment and Development Studies, Uppsala, Sweden. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal “Cognitive Neurodynamics”, and the reviewer of many international journals. He is a visiting professor at Newcastle University, UK, and Zhejiang University, China.
